ABOUT THE PROJECT
Strategies for Effective Data Governance
and Third-Party Risk Management
Background:
The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated digital banking across the globe, but also exposed critical gaps — in trust, data protection and access, particularly for underserved communities.
This project examines how cultural, socio-economic and behavioural factors influence public trust in digital banking, with a focus on data governance and third-party risk.
By comparing South Africa and Germany, the research aims to develop strategies for building safer, more inclusive and accountable digital financial systems.

Background:
The COVID-19 pandemic rapidly accelerated digital banking adoption. While this transformation expanded access, it also exposed deeper gaps in public trust, data protection, and digital inclusion, especially in under-resourced or marginalised communities.
This project explores how cultural, socio-economic, and behavioural factors shape public perceptions of digital banking, with a strong focus on data governance and third-party risk, in both South Africa and Germany.
Research Objectives:
Identify regulatory gaps and emerging risks in digital banking partnerships
Recommend practical strategies for more inclusive and trusted digital finance
Research Objectives:
